Soapberries, the fruit of the Sapindus Mukorosso tree are a natural soap from trees grown in the Himalayan Region.
The fruit is picked, seed removed and the shells are dried which produces a substance called "Saponins" and are naturally antibacterial, anti fungal and hypoallergenic. The Saponins reduce the surface tension of water, releasing dirt and grime from the surface of fabrics.
How to use: Place 5 - 6 soapberries in a small cotton bag, and place the bag inside the drum of your washing mashing with your clothes. This load of berries will do about 5 loads of washing. Fine for cold water, however for best results, a warm water was will draw more soap from the berries.
Once the cycle is finished, remove the wet bag and place it away from fabrics to dry out. Note: Colour may leak if left on fabrics for period of time.
Once the berries have expired, they will lose their structure and feel broke and brittle like dried leaves. You can then discard of them in to your green bin or compost to finish breaking down naturally.
